Arise Rotherham is a prayer and mission movement that invites believers in the Rotherham Borough to share their faith more freely.

Many Christians and churches joined together to pray in March 2025. In our second year, we take great encouragement from this and from the fruit we saw later in the year in people turning to Christ.

The  story so far…

Church leaders in Rotherham Borough have been meeting to pray monthly for many years. We have had larger gatherings of united prayer to pray for our Borough since 2015.

In 2021, we prayerwalked the town of Rotherham in an initiative called Floodtide, very similar to what we are doing this year.

It brought churches together and was an opportunity to bless people living in the streets of our town.

In 2024, during Thy Kingdom Come, we had a prayer pilgrimage to Roche Abbey and also a Pentecost picnic & prayer event by the Heart of Steel, outside Rotherham Minister.

This event drew on the history of the Whit Walks, as many people walked from their churches.

We know God has not finished fulfilling His purposes in Rotherham, so this year we're continuing to pray to see Rotherham transformed.

Let’s prayer-walk together this March!

  • Rt Revd Dr Pete Wilcox, Bishop of Sheffield

“What could be better than to pray for the people of our region and to pray for God’s blessing here, so I commend to you wholeheartedly: Arise!”

  • Revd Dr Nike Adebajo, emPower Coordinator

“emPower has been committed to regularly gathering Christians in Sheffield to pray for our city for over a decade and is excited to wholeheartedly commend this prayer walk and these missional opportunities to all Christians in our city.”

  • Bishop Ralph Heskett, Bishop of Hallam

“This year, once again, Arise will hallow the streets of Sheffield with a month’s prayer-walking during March. I am sure it will bring many blessings to our city. I look forward to sharing in the experience and being part of it.”

“Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile.

Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”

Jeremiah 29:7 (NIV)
